2014 August Trade Period

The August trade period in the QMJHL begins today. Don't expect a trade deadline frenzy, usually two or three trades are made on the opener. However, in the coming weeks as training camp opens, pre-season begins, and we get closer to the regular season, expect some more trades from teams putting the finishing touches on their rosters. Trades made around this time frame are usually small so don't expect any blockbusters.

One thing (and pretty much the only thing) Cape Breton should target now that trading is open is a veteran top-4 defenseman. Usually I wouldn't expect a good trade like that to be made this early but with the Eagles competing in the Junior World Cup in Russia this month, a trade such as that may be made sooner than later as the Eagles would like to get better for that tournament.

U17 Camp Action

The dev camp for Canada at the World Under 17s is holding their first exhibition games today. I'm rooting for Team Black. Why? Because the only Screaming Eagle in camp, 5th overall pick Pierre-Luc Dubois, is on the team, as well as Sydney native Mitchell Balmas. It's kinda of odd when I say I am rooting for a team when it's just an development camp exhibition game but I want both of the aforementioned players to win their games and make the team.

A live stream of the game is here: http://stats.hockeycanada.ca/game/show/7919686?subseason=160876&referrer=1289882

Update #1 (7/31/14) - The Return

After a long hiatus, I am back. I have missed quite a bit during my absence, but I will do my best to continue creating content for this blog. I have also created another blog as well, a general hockey blog: Puck Bi! - A Cape Breton Hockey Blog. In there you will find other posts about some Screaming Eagles and QMJHL stuff, but unlike this blog which is dedicated to one thing, my other new blog is just a general hockey blog about everything.

So starting today I will start posting again with a news article so watch for that. Anyway that's about it for this update so yea, I can't wait to post again and I hope you enjoy.

Eagles drop first two games to Gatineau

Another playoffs, another blowout. 2 seasons ago the Screaming Eagles got hammered by the Saint John Sea Dogs, and it looks very similar this year.

The Screaming Eagles dropped their first two playoff games on the road, 7-2 and 8-2 respectively.

In the first game, Simon Tardif-Richard potted a hat trick. In game 2, Emile Poirier scored a hat trick as well.

Alex Bureau started both games and has let in 11 goals on 49 shots collectively. Backup Zach Fortin has let in all together, 4 goals on 12 shots.

As for injuries, Justin Hache was hospitalized in game one and missed game two after a dirty hit near the end of the game. Jason Bell is also still out.

The Eagles play at home this Tuesday and Wednesday, and if the win a game in the series, this Friday.

Former Eagles goalie Trudeau signs try-out contract with B-Sens

Former Screaming Eagles goalie Philippe Trudeau has signed a professional try-out contract with the AHL's Binghamton Senators. Trudeau spent a season and a half with Cape Breton in 2010-11 and 2011-12, before being traded to the Val D'or Foreurs. He spent this season with the Ottawa 67s in the OHL, who didn't make the playoffs. The signing comes as the Senators goaltending depth has been hit by the injury bug.
